A collection of tools, tips and techniques to ensure your knowledge and library services can thrive.

Knowledge and Library Service (KLS) advocacy

The knowledge and library service (KLS) team needs to ensure that the service is widely viewed as business critical; taking the heavy lifting out of accessing best practice and the latest evidence.

Staff at all levels in the organisations you support need to be clear about how your services add value, and the unique, essential role library professionals play in achieving wider organisational goals.

How advocacy fits within the remit of the Knowledge and Library professional

Knowledge and library service advocacy is about adopting a set of behaviours, and developing the technical skills to ensure your service:

  • enjoys high levels of salience, respect and usage within host organisations
  • forms an integral component within the provision of safe, high quality care

Bringing about change

The toolkit will help you develop the key background knowledge, business skills and interpersonal skills required to position the service as ‘the indispensable knowledge and library’.

The toolkit is divided into 3 core sections. Modules may be used independently or in combination with other complementary tools and skills.
